Author

Dick Olango

Founder, Olango Capital · Managing Director, CBRE Global Workplace Solutions Japan · Licensed Architect (Japan)

Kenya-born architect and executive, resident in Japan for 25+ years. Dick leads CBRE's workplace solutions business nationally — facilities management, building operations, and real assets at scale — while advising institutional investors through Olango Capital on the Kenya–Japan bridge.

Leading by Subtraction began as a journal — three hundred words a day on an iPhone, in shower thoughts and train walks — while the role was impossible and the calendar was full. The same capture discipline that documents cross-border investment insights now fuels a book for new leaders: subtract noise, meetings, and illusions until you have bandwidth to lead.

Long before this book, Dick built AOAD in Tokyo, co-founded OSA across Tokyo and Nairobi, and mentors Kenyan students connected to institutions at home and in Japan. He writes raw, edits later — and believes greatness hides in the cracks of ordinary executive life.
